27/5/2026 0 Comments Research I’ll admit it: I love research. I’m officially the perpetual student seeking information and specific details on an unknown topic. I have studied subjects that I have never dreamt I would study, let alone get slightly obsessed with. Be it health, home, behaviours, personalities, locations, hobbies, cultures or industry - I throw myself into research much like an eager school child with a summer project. There’s a fascination for learning anything which does link to my childhood, but now I have the freedom to do as I wish. And, explore what I choose and the best part none of it is wasted – it all enhances my life. I’m not sharing what my current topic and obsession is but it has surprised me as much as it might surprise my readers. I’ve found myself asking one question which led to another and another and so the sequence begins until I’m now at the laughing stage, laughing at myself that is, as every day I have the same topic buzzing around my head. Yesterday, I actually put aside an hour to dive into the topic and it wasn’t even a necessary task for my day; I simply wanted to read just a little more. Seriously, I’ve opened Pandora’s box! Am I worried that this ‘topic’ will take over my life, forcing me to ditch my current life, careers and future plans to run off into the sunset dedicating my existence to this new found ‘love’? Nah, I recognise that this is part of the writing process for me. It has happened numerous times before and resulted in a fabulous book. I’ve learnt to go with my gut reaction and enjoy the process of being a nerd for a period of time. My story line will develop from the study and research I’m doing and in time, at an author Q&A session someone will ask a specific question that I may well know the answer to. Or I’ll attend a quiz night and gain a point for some obscure answer gained from my research. So that’s me, at the minute, busy polishing one book and researching the topic of another. And, loving every damned minute of it!
